SEBI makes direct fund plans the default, the Fed holds rates, and YouTube ad money climbs

Tip of the day

Check your fund's expense ratio before your next investment

Look up the expense ratio (the yearly fee) on every mutual fund or index fund you own, and compare it with the 'direct' or lower-cost version of the same fund. In India, direct plans hold the same portfolio as regular plans but usually cost less because they skip distributor commissions, and from November 1 they become the default on fund houses' apps. A smaller fee leaves more of the return in your pocket, year after year.

🧭 Reality check: effort & risk

Effort: low, about 30 minutes with your statements. Cost: none to check. Risk: switching an existing fund can trigger exit loads or taxes, and going direct means no adviser to guide you, so weigh both first. Fees and rules differ by country. Not financial advice.

💬 Why it mattersIf you invest through a fund house's app, the cheaper direct plan will now be the starting choice, which can mean higher net returns over time. Not financial advice.
