Tip of the day
Make your emergency fund earn while it waits
Cash you keep for emergencies should be safe and easy to reach, but it doesn't have to sit earning almost nothing. In the US, many big banks still pay 0.01% to 0.05% on standard savings, while the median high-yield savings account was paying 3.48% on 25 October, according to one tracker of 158 accounts. Wherever you live, compare your bank's savings rate with insured high-interest savings accounts or deposits, and read the conditions: the very top advertised rates often need direct deposits, minimum balances or are short-term promotions.
๐งญ Reality check: effort & risk
Low effort: about an hour to compare and open an account. Rates can change at any time, interest is usually taxable, and you should stick to accounts covered by your country's deposit insurance and stay under its limit. This won't make you rich; it just stops idle cash losing ground. Not financial advice.
